چکیده

Published in the Scandinavian Journal of Laboratory Animal Science an international journal of laboratory animal science Introduction In vertebrates, anemia is a common hematological disorder associated with several conditions such as drug toxicity, parasites, genetic or acquired defects, and blood loss (Criswell et al., 2000; Jollow & McMillan, 2001). The hemolytic activity of arylhydrazines, such as phenylhydrazine (PHZ), dapsone hydroxylamine, divicine, may lead to acute hemolytic anemia in vertebrates (Jollow & McMillan, 2001; Kozlov et al., 1980; Magnani et al., 1986). The main action of the classical hemotoxicant PHZ has long been associated with drug-induced oxidative stress occurring within erythrocytes (Kinuta et al., 1995; Jain & Hochstein, 1980). This process produces an increase in the oxidation of oxyhemoglobin, thus leading to the formation of metahemoglobin which is subsequently converted into irreversible hemichromes which, in turn, lead to the denaturation and precipitation of hemoglobin in the form of Heinz bodies (Rifkind & Danon, 1965; Rifkind, 1965). Skeletal protein damage and lipid peroxidation as well as glutathione and ATP depletion, cation imbalances, and reduced membrane deformability have been proposed to be involved in the hemolytic response that is induced by oxidant drugs (McMillan et al., 1998). On the other hand, it has also been reported that PHZ-induced anemia is associated with immune Hematological and Morphological Analysis of the Erythropoietic Regenerative Response in Phenylhydrazine-induced Hemolytic Anemia in Mice

Amelioration of Lipid Peroxidation and Antioxidant Enzymes Status in the Serum and Erythrocytes of Phenylhydrazine-Induced Anemic Male Rats: The Protective Role of Artichoke Extract (Cynara scolymus L.)

BACKGROUND: Hemolytic anemia is a disorder characterized by the premature erythrocytes destruction. Phenylhydrazine (PHZ) induces oxidative stress and reactive oxygen species (ROS) formation, which causes hemolytic anemia. Cynara scolymus due to its antioxidant compounds, has been used for various therapeutic purposes in traditional medicine. OBJECTIVES: The present study was designed to evalua...

Objective(s): The aim of the present study was to assess the effects of vitamin C (Vit C) on hemolytic anemia induced by phenylhydrazine (PHZ). Materials and Methods: Twenty-four healthy male mice were divided into four groups, randomly: Control group (0.1 ml/day, normal slaine, IP), PHZ group that received only PHZ 8 mg/100 g/48 hr, IP, PHZ+Vit C group that received PHZ 8 mg/100 g/48 hr, IP an...

Protective effect of ethyl pyruvate on mice sperm parameters in phenylhydrazine induced hemolytic anemia

The aim of the present study was to assess the protective effect of ethyl pyruvate (EP) on sperm quality parameters, testosterone level and malondialdehyde (MDA) in phenylhydrazine (PHZ) treated mice. For this purpose, 32 NMRI mice with the age range of 8 to 10 weeks, weight average 26.0 ± 2.0 g, were randomly divided into four equal groups. The control group (1) received normal saline (0. 1 mL...
